The Challenge
The International Longshoremen’s Association—North America’s largest maritime workers union—needed a site that could serve multiple audiences at once: 80,000+ members looking for news, contracts, and resources; press and media outlets seeking official statements and leadership contacts; affiliated locals and district organizations across the continent; and the general public. The site needed to be easy to keep current, since it functions as the union’s primary communications channel.
What the Site Does
ilaunion.org covers a lot of ground. News and video content keep members and media up to date on negotiations, conventions, and union business. A deep reference library houses master contracts, constitutional documents, safety circulars, port procedural guides, and container and chassis specifications. Leadership directories cover officers, the Executive Council, and regional boards. A civil rights section addresses member protections. An education section with photo archives documents the union’s history going back to its 1877 founding.
Full-Service Management
The ILA relies on us to keep the site current. They send us content additions and changes—news items, document updates, leadership changes, announcements—and we handle everything from there. The site is hosted on our infrastructure, maintained and secured on an ongoing basis, and updated regularly as the union’s needs come in. They don’t need to think about the site. That’s the arrangement, and it’s been working for years.
The Result
A well-organized, consistently maintained web presence for one of North America’s most significant labor organizations—serving members, media, and affiliated locals as the ILA’s primary public-facing resource.
